Christianity Explained is a course that addresses the key aspects of the Christian faith. It is a course suitable for anyone, from those curious about the Christian faith with no Christian background to mature Christians wanting to have a clear basis for their faith.

How the course is run:

The course is run in a small group format, and it is designed to be a safe place where participants can choose to interact at whatever level they feel comfortable with. There is no pressure to answer questions, read the Bible aloud or pray aloud. Participants can choose to quietly take in the content, or they can ask any questions they have. No questions are off limits, and our presenters have been running these courses over many years, and have received all manner of questions – nothing surprises them anymore!

Christianity Explained addresses these questions and more:

• What do Christians believe?
• Who is Jesus?
• Where do we go when we die?
• How can I know for sure if I will go to heaven?
• How can I find purpose in my life?

We offer a course every term, and each course runs across 6 sessions (generally one evening each week across 6 weeks). Christianity Explained is completely free, and all materials are provided for you.

Alpha is a multi-week course where people come together to discuss life’s big questions. We believe that everyone should have the chance to explore faith, ask questions and share their point of view, and Alpha provides the space to do just that. It is a course suitable for anyone, from those curious about the Christian faith with no Christian background to mature Christians wanting to have a clear basis for their faith or with further questions they want to explore.

The course is run following a Connect, Watch and Discuss model:

• Connect - All sessions start with a time to connect, relax and build friendships.
• Watch - The Alpha talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Each one explores important issues around faith and and unpacks the basics of Christianity.
• Discuss - One of the most important parts of Alpha is the chance to share thoughts and ideas in small groups. There’s no obligation to say anything and there’s nothing you can’t share (seriously). It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

• Why and how do I pray?
• How does God guide us?

Both courses offer great value to participants on their personal faith journeys, however they are run quite differently. Christianity Explained is presented in a very small group, while Alpha is often run for larger groups and participants are given the opportunity to break into smaller groups for discussion. The teaching component in Alpha is in the form of a video with opportunities to ask questions and discuss afterwards, while Christianity Explained is presented in person and participants can ask questions at any time.

The best course for you depends on your personal preference. You are also more than welcome to do both courses! Many people do one and enjoy it so much they decide to try the other in the following term.
